The Third Period is a feature-length family/change of life drama and a book set in the world of ice hockey from writer/director, and former Fox Sports Ohio reporter covering the Columbus Blue Jackets and NHL, Steph West (formerly Steph Greegor). The story follows aging hockey star Mike Olsky, who must battle his way back from injury to win big in the third period of his life.

West’s The Third Period novel wins gold

COLUMBUS — Author and screenwriter Steph West’s novel The Third Period (also a screenplay) was chosen as a gold medal winner Dec. 5 by the North American Book Awards in the Sports Fiction category. Books were selected across several categories for “…exceptional craft, originality, and excellence in writing, editing, and design…”.

West created a proof of concept short film titled Olsky, an Emmy-nominated, festival-accepted 8-minute short that shows the brief moments after Mike Olsky must re-enter his life following a horrific accident.You can rent or buy Olsky here.

The Third Period earned second place to West’s Clean Break screenplay in the 2024 Women in Film and Video New England Sports Screenplay contest.
